Fashion editor Max Ortega styled an opera-themed beauty look at the Met Gala, inspired by director Baz Luhrmann's ideas and paying tribute to Karl Lagerfeld's love of ballroom dancing and opera. The show began with a waltz tribute and featured a meticulously curated orchestra of beauty looks, with Lizzo as the queen of the night in reference to The Magic Flute.

To set the tone, orchestra members wore artfully masked gazes and "Karl-inspired" black caps, with makeup artist Raisa Flowers creating a two-in-one look of a smokey eye under a silver eye mask using Too Faced products.

Hairstylist Joey George prepped sparkling pin curls for woodwind players and flutists announcing the main performance, with beaded capes cut from diaphanous fabric that let the hairpieces shine through. Bumble and Bumble's BB.Gel was used for both sleek knots and elaborate theatrical wigs, with silver biodegradable glitters adding a crafting element.

Hairstylist Joey George spent days prepping sparkling pin curls for woodwind players and flutists announcing the main performance, with the aim of inviting everyone to the "opera" moment. Beaded capes were cut from diaphanous fabric to let George's meticulously sculpted 40s-era hairpieces shine through. The glittery, starry pin curls created with Bumble and Bumble products added a face-framing look that glistened through the sheer hoods. Bumble and Bumble's BB.Gel was used for both sleek knots and elaborate theatrical wigs, doubling as a mixing medium for silver biodegradable glitters. George styled the woodwind players and flutists on stage with Lizzo as well as her dancers and backup singers, using Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray to create big textured hair that was electric on stage.
